NAZRI: MUSA AMAN CLEARED OF CORRUPTION BY MACC

Nazri: Musa Aman cleared of corruption by MACC

KUALA LUMPUR 11/10/2012: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has cleared Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and timber trade “deal maker” Michael Chia of allegation of corruption involving timber licences, the Dewan Rakyat was told on Tuesday.

“The Attorney-General's (AG) Chambers had studied and examined the evidence from the MACC and found that there was no element of corruption in the case.

“The funds were actually contributions made to the Sabah Umno liaison body and not for the personal use of the Chief Minister,”

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz said in a written reply to Tian Chua (PKR-Batu).

Tian Chua had asked why was there no further action taken against Musa and Chia after MACC had completed its investigation.

Nazri said that the case had also been probed by the Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and it had come with the same conclusion.

“On the matter filed in the Switzerland courts, it was a Macma (Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act) application by the ICAC seeking to investigate on the case.

“The Macma application has also been withdrawn for the same reason as stated above,” he said.
