One-to-one fight unlikely – DAP
KOTA KINABALU May 24, 2012: A straight fight between the opposition and Barisan Nasional (BN) in Sabah in the coming general election will not happen, according to Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sabah adviser Dr Hiew King Cheu.
The Kota Kinabalu member of parliament also ruled out the possibility of DAP or Pakatan Rakyat striking a workable deal with the “self-glorified and unrealistic” State Reform Party (STAR) and Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP).
“A one-to-one fight will never happen, and I don’t mind to say that it will be BN’s play to get more parties into the fray for their benefit,”
Hiew told The Borneo Post, yesterday.
He predicted that the coming polls would be the most exciting yet in Sabah history with many independent candidates expected to enter multi-corner contests against the PR and BN as well as the smaller local parties.
He said the 13th general election would be especially interesting with the opposition pact only needing additional eight parliamentary seats from Sabah and 12 from Sarawak to wrest power from the BN government.
Asked about DAP’s chances in retaining the Kota Kinabalu parliamentary seat, Hiew said the outcome of the election would not be determined so much by how many candidates are running in a particular constituency but rather by the quality of the competing political parties.
“Nobody knows who will win; we in DAP only know how to work hard and leave it to the people to decide,” he said
Hiew said the 20-seat PR target for Sabah and Sarawak is achievable if the voters can focus their votes on Pakatan.
Asked whether he thought DAP and Pakatan were still hoping to achieve a win-win solution with fellow opposition in Sabah, he said collaboration with STAR and SAPP would not materialize, blaming the state-based parties’ “unrealistic expectations”.
He said DAP would stand firm to fight for the people regardless of with or without support from other opposition parties.
“They claim DAP and Pakatan are Semenanjung-based parties but we are not. DAP is a national party that has been in Sabah for a very long time,” he said.
“We walk the street, work for the people, not like some people who suddenly appear when an election is near and claim to be the champion of the people,” he said.

Today's newspaper said Yong Teck Lee released a statement that one-to-one fight between opposition and BN is possible only in certain districts.
BalasPadamSAPP nak bertanding 40 kerusi, Star 60 kerusi, nampak mcm sukar ia nak brlaku.
PadamI still find it impossible...
PadamMasing-masing target kerusi, jangan pula abaikan perkhidmatan kepada rakyat!
PadamYong Teck Lee also slammed Hiew King Ceu that he is not sincere in fighting one-to-one as he is only concerned about his own political status.
BalasPadambagaimana ia tak berlaku jika tiada kerjasama dikalangan pembangkang?
When the opposition lose, they would accuse BN for playing dirty. Its always like that.
Padamjangan salahkan SPR jika pembangkang kalah.. salahkan pemimpin2 pembangkang kerana terlalu tamakkan jawatan kabinet sehingga sukar untuk mereka bekerjasama..
BalasPadambetul tue.. each time BN/UMNO win, the people would blame SPR for not being clean and fair when the real reason is because the opposition parties refuse to unite.
Padam“We walk the street, work for the people, not like some people who suddenly appear when an election is near and claim to be the champion of the people,” he said.
BalasPadamThere are many party like suddenly appear when an election is near.
those are the kind of party that are not sincere in helping the people. vote wisely!
PadamThey are only concern of fighting for their own political leverage and not sincere in fighting for the people.
PadamStar said a one to one fight is unnecessary even though before this they have urged all opposition to unite to achieve this one to one fight strategy. What a hypocrite.
BalasPadamI think what the opposition said cannot be trusted as they changed their minds too frequently. At first they say they wanted to fight one on one, but after that they said it was not necessary. Are they trying to confuse the people?
BalasPadamKita tunggu saja apa yang STAR, SAPP dan PR akan lakukan. Yang pasti STAR menolak PR untuk bertanding di Sabah.
BalasPadamPembangkang semakin tertekan semasa PRU semkain mendekati.
PadamPembangkang berpecah belah, bukan senang untuk bergabung dan memperjuang menghala agenda yang sama.
BalasPadamSelagi masalah PATI dan projek IC tidak diselesaikan, kemenangan untuk BN masih cerah.
BalasPadamIs there any need for violence as such?
BalasPadamThey should be more concerned about the affairs of the people.
BalasPadamIt is certain that some parties are not concerned about the interest of the people.
BalasPadamWell to the effect we are supposed to vote wisely
BalasPadamTime will tell…let’s wait and see
