New S'kan, Beaufort community colleges to start intakes soon
Tawau May 20, 2012: Two new state community colleges will begin their respective intakes this year, said State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.
Masidi, who is also Sabah Education executive councillor, said the community college in Sandakan would start admitting students next month, while that in Beaufort, year-end or January, next year.
"The graduates of these colleges are crucial in meeting the technical workforce demand in the State," he told reporters after the Sabah Zone community colleges' eighth convocation, here, Saturday.
Earlier in his address, he said locals should not fault outsiders for coming to Sabah in search of a better life as the state had a thriving economy.
He said, many people from neighbouring countries, particularly Indonesia and the Philippines, were working in the plantation and construction sectors because the State needed their services while locals were less inclined to join the sectors.
