LAHAD DATU May 8, 2012: A plantation worker was found dead with 16 stab wounds near a stall on the side of Jambatan Bilis here on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Tirwan Lambahani, 24, was found lying face down by his grandfather-in-law about 10pm.
District police chief Superintendent Shamsudin Mat said the grandfather-in-law and several people brought the victim’s body to their house at Kampung Tanjung Labian.
He said the family lodged a police report on Sunday after being advised by the village chief.
“Initial investigation revealed that the victim was wandering around the village area before his grandfather-in-law found his body.
“The incident is believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the families. However, investigations are still ongoing,” he said.
They have yet to recover the murder weapon, he said.
But Shamsudin said they had so far detained five people to assist in their investigation and they had identified the main suspect who they believed would be arrested soon.
He added that the victim’s body had been sent to the district hospital for a post mortem.
Police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
