Apply if untrained teachers still needed — deputy minister
BELURAN May 22, 2012: The state Education Department must apply to the Ministry of Education relating to the services of untrained teachers if the department still needed their services.
Deputy Education Minister Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said this was because the government had decided to absorb untrained teacher as interim teachers.
“If Sabah feels they still need the services of untrained teachers, the state Education Department may file an appeal and an application to the Ministry of Education.
“For the time being we do not take untrained teachers as we have thousands of interim teachers who are waiting for placement,”
he said when commenting on the position of 360 untrained teachers in this state.
Mohd Puad was speaking to reporters after the Umno Beluran Division annual conference at the multi-purpose hall yesterday.
He added that the ministry had been interviewing about 5,000 people to be absorbed as interim teachers.
Interim teachers (Guru Sandaran Siswazah Terlatih) are trained graduate support teachers with Bachelors in Education qualification.
Puad said at the moment there was no placement for these teachers even though they had graduated from public higher learning institutions.
“I will strive to overcome this problem by considering an appeal in respect of untrained teachers in the state, but it all depends if Sabah still needs their services,” he said.
The deputy minister also said the government has allocated a total of RM700.1 million to equip 179 schools with the solar hybrid system to ensure 24-hour supply of electricity.
He said the first phase where RM300.1 million had been allocated to launch the solar hybrid projects in 78 schools, had already been completed.
“The second phase will cost RM400 million for 101 schools,” he said.
He added that the second phase of the project included schools from Beluran, Ranau, Kota Belud and Sipitang.
Fuad said the government always kept their promise towards solving the electricity supply problems to schools in the rural areas which was important because it enabled students to use computers.
“With the implementation of this project, I’m certain it will give confidence to the rural students to compete with students from the city,” he said.
