SEMPORNA Mac 25, 2012: Nine people have been arrested in two raids by police for alleged fish bombing.
Acting Semporna district police chief Assistant Superintendent Zairolnizal Ishak said the raids were carried out after police received information of the activities at Bum-Bum and Larapan islands on Thursday.
“The first raid was made on a house in Kampung Hidayat, Bum-Bum Island by Marine police whereby seven men without any document, aged 19 to 40, were arrested around 4pm.

About three hours later, marine police arrested two men, aged 25 and 34, who were in a boat off Laparan Island on suspicion of being involved in fish bombing.
“Police investigation found a homemade explosive and some amount of fish caught by the illegal method,” he said.
All the suspects have been remanded and the case would be investigated under Section 8 of the Explosive Act 1957, which provides a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine not exceeding RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.
Zairolnizal thanked the public for providing information to the police and looked forward for their cooperation to curbing the illegal activity.
Those who still uses fish bombs to catch fish should be given due punishment since fish bombing is highly damaging to the marine life. Good job from the polic e for nabbing these illegals.
