Tribunal needed to resolve Sabah’s native land disputes: Chief Judge
KOTA KINABALU: A tribunal or commission is needed to resolve disputes involving native land in Sabah instead of these matters ending up in the courts, Chief Judge for Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Richard Malanjumsaid Monday.
He said such disputes could be resolved faster as the burden of proof in terms of land occupation would likely be not as stringent as in the courts.
Malanjum said a Sabah native land tribunal could be modelled along a similar body in New Zealand that had proven to be effective.
There were currently some 40 cases involving native land disputes in the Sabah courts, he said at a symposium on Sabah native land rights here.

Hope that the land disputes will be resolved once and for all, the people's land rights must be protected.
BalasPadamIt is better if the problems can be solved without having to go to court.
BalasPadami think it is very hard and impossible to solve the critical issues like this outside the court.
PadamHopefully with the tribunal or commission (based on the New Zealand Model)will assist and resolve disputes involving native land in Sabah.
BalasPadamProven to be effective in NZ. There's no harm if it can be practiced here.
PadamWith these tribunals, disputing parties will need not to proceed to court pertaining this matter as the process itself will be time consuming.
BalasPadamnatives have the right to protect their rights when they are being oppressed or their rights encroached.
BalasPadamGovernment is aware and concerned and open to listen to problems faced by the people that involves the natives
BalasPadamhope the 40 cases involving native land disputes will be solved asap.
BalasPadamKerajaan pasti mencari jalan penyelesaian untuk menangani isu Tanah adat ini.
BalasPadamMahkamah pun 'penat' sudah melayan kes isu tanah yang tiada kesudahan ini. Apa tunggu lagi? Tubuhkan tribunal itu.
BalasPadamsince the land tribunal had proven to be effective in New Zealand, why not implement it here?.. we need to try whatever methods to solve the land disputes in this state..
BalasPadamI really hope that the federal government will take into consideration this idea to resolve these long standing problem in this state.. but the state high court also need to play their role to bring justice to the villagers who become a victim by those greedy..
