RM500 BR1M VOUCHERS WILL BE DISBURSED IN STAGES AT CEREMONY STARTING NEXT MONDAY - DONALD

Donald Lim: Govt representatives to give out BR1M vouchers at ceremony

PETALING JAYA: Successful applicants of the RM500 1M People's Aid (BR1M) will be asked to attend a ceremony near their area to receive payment.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim said government representatives would hand over the vouchers which recipients could cash at a participating bank in the same area.

“The money will be disbursed in stages from Monday. We hope to give out the cash as soon as possible,”

he told The Star.

Lim said that letters would be sent out to inform applicants whether they qualify for the assistance or not and where they could receive their vouchers.

When tabling the 2012 Budget in October, the Prime Minister announced that all households earning below RM3,000 month would receive a one-off RM500 payment under BR1M.

Lim said that people staying in remote areas might receive their vouchers a little later because of logistical reasons.

The number of households which will receive the aid has not been determined, said Lim “The Inland Revenue Board is still processing the applications following the deadline on Tuesday,'' he said.

It was earlier reported that RM2.6bil would be paid out to 5.2 million households.

    Although the amount money given might not that big, at least hardcore poor people still manage to receive some help.
