FOREIGNERS DETAINED FOR ROBBERY, PROSTITUTION & DRUGS

KOTA KINABALU Jan 7, 2012: A 32-year-old foreigner was arrested by police for breaking into a hand phone shop in Inanam and stealing about RM3,000 worth of handphones and other items between Dec 26 and 30  last year, said City police chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria.

“Acting on the police report lodged by the shop owner, we managed to detect and arrest the suspect in Petagas, near here on Dec 30.

“During the arrest, police recovered six handphones of numerous brands, two pen-drives, a handphone charger and cash RM187,” he said at a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.

According to Sofi, the shop owner, a woman in her 50s, had closed her business for a couple of days for the holiday season and only realized her shop was broken into when she was informed by another business owner.

The suspect has been remanded to be investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking.

Under the provision, it carries a jail term of up to 14 years and fine or whipping on conviction.

In an unrelated case, police confiscated 1,015 copies of DVDs without the ‘B’ licence.

Sofi said the raid was made at a premise in Lido, near here on Jan 4 around 3.45pm.

A local woman, believed to be the caretaker of the premise, was also detained to assist police in their investigation, said Sofi, adding that the case would be investigated under Section 18 (4) (a) of the Film Censorship Act 2002.

Foreign woman held for vice

KOTA KINABALU Jan 7, 2012: A foreign woman who was allegedly involved in prostitution was arrested by police last year, less than 48-hours after arriving in the state capital.

City police chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria said the woman, aged 27, was arrested by police in a hotel room in Kampung Air, here for providing sex service on Dec 31.

Initial police investigation also showed the woman had entered the state capital as a tourist.

In a similar case, a 40-year-old foreign woman was detained by police for providing sex services at a hotel room in Kampung Air, here on Jan 4.

According to Sofi, the woman was caught red-handed in the midst of discussing providing sex service to her client.

Both women have been remanded where the case would be investigated under Section 372 B of the Penal Code.

Mother, son arrested for possessing Syabu

KOTA KINABALU Jan 7, 2012: A mother and son were arrested by police for possessing 5.2grams of Syabu worth RM1,500.

City police chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria said the arrest were made at a house in Kampung Tatahan, Inanam on Dec 29 last year.

During the raid, police found 32 plastic packets of substance believed to be syabu which was weighed at 5.2grams and valued at RM1,500, said Sofi.

The mother and son, both foreigners, aged 37 and 16, have been remanded to be investigated under Section Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail term of between two and five years and whipping between three and nine strokes.

Meanwhile, three men, including two foreigners, were detained by police for possessing 5.2grams of Syabu.

The suspects, aged 17 to 23, were detained after police spotted them inside a Proton Iswara car acting suspiciously along Jalan Kionsom in Inanam on New Year day last year.

An inspection inside the car revealed a plastic packet of white substance believed to be Syabu weighing at 5.2 grams with a market price of RM1,500.

Initial police investigation also showed the suspects are drug pushers and were operating around the state capital.

They have been remanded where the case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Businesswoman suffers up to RM50,000 losses in house burglary

PENAMPANG Jan 9, 2012:  A businesswoman suffered losses amounting to RM50,000 after her house in Taman Oriental, Towering near here was burglarized on Saturday.

According to a source, prior to the 5pm incident, the 39-year-old businesswoman had gone out to fetch her kid as the school day had finished.

However, when she returned she was shocked to find  that her house was in a messy condition, and later discovered that a safety box had been forced opened and several items, including a pair of lockets and RM28,000 cash, missing.

From the source, the safety box was taken to the living area using a mattress before it was forced opened by the robbers.

“The safety iron box was kept in a room and it was brought to the living area to enable the criminals to see people outside the house,” the source said.

According to him, the victim lodged a police report soon after the incident.

Meanwhile district police chief DSP Ratan Kumar Singh when contacted yesterday confirmed the incident and said they would investigate the case.

Gang robbery syndicate busted

KOTA KINABALU: A group of criminals, believed to be involved in nine gang-robbery cases, including robbing four 24-hour convenient stores, has been crippled following the arrest of three of the gang members last month.

City police chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria said the suspects, in their early and late 20s, were arrested at a hotel in the city centre on Dec 23 last year.

“Police investigation believed the group has been in operation since July last year and were involved in nine criminal cases, namely two house- breaking, three vehicle thefts and four robbery of a 24-hours convenient store around the state capital,” he said at a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.

According to Sofi, the group would use different tactics in carrying out their activities.

“The suspects would enter a 24-hour convenient store acting as a customer.

“They would then approached the counter and threaten the casher with a sharp object and demand for money from the cash register before fleeing the store in a waiting vehicle,” said Sofi.

He added that the suspects had got away with a total of RM192,200 in cash from four convenient stores.

For their house-breaking activities, the suspect would enter a house through a sliding door or window by using a hard object.

They would rob their victims of their personal items before fleeing the scene in a waiting vehicle.

“For their vehicle theft activity, the suspects would steal a vehicle with its engine still running when the vehicle owner had entered a shop or premises without turning off the engine and locking the vehicle,” he said.

Following the arrest, police have only recovered a cash register and a Toyota Vigo vehicle.

“Police are still carrying out investigation to determine if there are other people involved with this group,” he said.

The suspects have been remanded and would be investigated under Section 395/397, Section 379 A and Section 457 of the Penal Code for gang-robbery, motor vehicle theft and house-breaking respectively.

Three labourers arrested over man’s death

KOTA KINABALU: Three men have been arrested by police less than three hours between 8pm and 9.25pm on Thursday after they were allegedly involved in the death of a local man who was murdered at a billiard outlet in Menggatal town.

The suspects, all local labourers, aged 19, 25, and 31 were arrested at three separate locations following a massive manhunt launched by police from the crime investigation department and K-9 dog unit, said City police chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria.

“The first suspect, aged 25, was arrested at Mile 5, Tuaran Bypass at 8pm.

“Four minutes later, police arrested the second 19-year-old suspect at a squatter area in Menggatal, while the third suspect was picked up by police at Taman Richdar around 9.25pm,” he told reporters at a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.

Sofi said initial police investigation revealed that the cause of the murder was due to an argument between the victim and the suspects which led to a fight at the billiard outlet, located on the second floor of a three storey-building.

“Investigation at the crime scene showed that the victim was struck by a hard object, believed to be a belt buckle, on his face and head,” said Sofi.

Sofi added that two of the suspects are drug addicts and had previous criminal records.

The suspects have been remanded where the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

Sofi thanked the public for providing valuable information to the police which led to the arrest of the suspects.

“Police managed to solve this case within three hours thanks to the cooperation and information provided by the public,” he said.

Kiambalang murder solved

KOTA KINABALU: The case of a man who was murdered and buried at a hill slope at Kampung Kiambalang in Inanam on Dec 18 last year, has finally been solved.

City police chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria said after three weeks of investigation, police finally solved the case with the arrest of a 42-year-old local man on Jan 5.

“The suspect, who is believed to be a drug addict with previous criminal record, was arrested on Thursday around 3.15pm,” he said at a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.

According to Sofi, police investigation revealed that the suspect had gone into hiding by taking shelter around the city centre since the murder took place on Dec 18 last year.

“Following continuous investigation and tip-off from members of the public, police managed to trace the whereabouts of the suspect which led to his arrest,” he said, adding that police are still investigating the motive behind the killing.

On Dec 18 last year, the body of a man in his 30s, believed to have been murdered, was found buried, at a hill slop at Kampung Kiambalang, Inanam

The body was discovered by a labourer around 4pm while on his way to tap rubber near the area. Initial police investigation at the crime scene found traces of blood and the body buried at the hill slop.

Forensic investigation also revealed the victim suffered injury on his head which was inflicted with a hard object, believed to be a shovel, which was found at the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Under the provision, it carries the death penalty upon conviction.

  13. Nampaknya hukuman yang ada sekarang ini perlu dikaji semula dengan jenayah yang dilakukan. Kerana mereka tidak takut dengan hukuman yang akan dikenakan dengan kesalahan yang dilakukan. Maka kita hara perkara ini perlu dikaji semula bagi memberikan kesedaran kepada para penjenayah diluar sana.

  14. pendatang haram tidak perlu risau melakukan jenayah di negeri ini kerana mereka bebas keluar masuk tanpa disedari pihak berkuasa.. pintu masuk negeri samada pintu utama mahupun pintu belakang perlu dikawal ketat.. sempadan negeri juga perlu sentiasa dikawal jika mahu memastikan negeri ini selamat dari ancaman pendatang haram..
