PETRONAS MUST GIVE LOCAL FIRMS PRIORITY

Petronas must give local firms priority

PUTATAN 14th August, 2011: Petronas must give more business opportunities for local companies in the building of the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal in Kimanis.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin said the national oil firm should give contract works and supply contracts to Sabah companies which are capable.

“Beside business opportunities, our local youths should also be given priority to secure jobs in SOGT,” he told reporters after attending a breaking of fast and the presentation of assistance from Petronas held at Masjid Jamek Putatan, Friday night.

The programme is jointly organized by Petronas, Ladang Sri Dalima Sdn Bhd and Koperasi Perpaduan Putatan Berhad.

More than 200 orphans, poor, single mothers and disabled persons received the assistance including cash and kind.

Also present were Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk .Edward Yong Oui Fah, and Putatan MP Datuk Dr.Marcus Mojigoh.

Yahya who is also the State Agriculture and Food Industry Minister said with better opportunities, local companies would have the chance to work with Petronas.

“And if the business involves engineering, it will allow our local companies to receive the necessary experience,” he said.

According to him, if given the direction, Sabah companies would be able to progress and prosper.

The more important point is that, these companies will have the capability to compete in the future, he added.

On another note, Yahya said the Sabah government is appreciative of Petronas for their support for smart students from Sabah in awarding study scholarships.

“Through these scholarships, our capable youth will be taught on the oil and gas industry. We will have more engineers and experts in the field,” he said adding that Petronas also contributed considerably to the wellbeing of the poor and underprivileged community.

    I agree with this, its certainly a good idea where petronas give more offer to the local companies so that they can grow big and help for the economy of Sabah. In return, its help the people here also.

    If Petronas can prioritised and give good offer to the local here, its really help to boots local economy. Give them more hand-oh-skill training in oil industry, job opportunity, great expansion project to the local developer. I see many advantages.

    These is something really great to know about. Im sure these can help the people to get better education and training and to service Petronas for better productivity. Win-Win situation.

    Im sure many of them would really appreciate with Petronas help to resolve poverty. For better tomorrow, lets hope Petronas coem to its strategic plan to help people.

    jangan ada pula berita yang mengatakan bahawa syarikat2 dari Semenanjung yang menguasai terminal dan loji tersebut dan kebanyakan pekerja pula lebih ramai yang diambil luar dari negeri Sabah.

    kalau tidak sanggup menerima kritikan, baik buat sepertimana yang telah diarahkan.. setiap tindakan Petronas patut mengambilkira atau mempertimbangkan pendapat bukan sahaja dikalangan pemimpin malah rakyat Sabah.
