Oncology and Nuclear Treatment Centre ready by July next year
KOTA KINABALUJuly 15, 2011: The on-going construction of the oncology and nuclear treatment centre here is scheduled for completion by July 2012.
Disclosing this here yesterday, State Health Department deputy director Dr Tan Enoch said the centre could provide radiotherapy services to cancer patients from throughout the state.
Dr Tan said the radiotherapy services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II, Luyang are disrupted for the time being because the CT Scan is not functioning since end of April.
Responding to a Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) complaint on July 12, Dr Tan assured that the services will resume July 20.
He said among actions being taken to overcome the problem were to get funding from the Health Ministry and to discuss about the cost of repairing the machine with the relevant companies.
Dr Tan added that presently, some 30 patients needing radiotherapy treatment have been sent to the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching and other oncology centres in Kuala Lumpur.
He said the hospital management sponsors all the treatments and airfares.
