KUALA LUMPUR: Those spreading vicious rumours over the arson attacks on three churches in the Klang Valley on Friday can be arrested under the Internal Security Act, IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan warned.
He said he had received numerous phone calls as well as SMSes, alleging that more than three churches had been attacked.
“I have also received SMSes that vehicles with crosses and rosaries had been vandalised in the Klang Valley. All these are mere rumours.
“We will not tolerate such actions and will not hesitate to even arrest those responsible under Section 28 of the ISA,” Musa told The Star, adding that the police were tracing who had sent out such SMSes.
Reiterating that only three churches had come under attack on Friday, Musa said police would beef up security and patrols at churches and also mosques to ensure no untoward incidents happened.
“These patrols will be carried out for the next three days. Besides this, we will also carry out air patrols throughout the country.
“I have directed all state police chiefs to personally oversee the safety of mosques and churches,” he added.
