PLOTS GIVEN TO FIVE-YEAR-OLDS AND GRASSROOTS POLITICIANS

PETALING JAYA, May 14, 2009: At least two five-year-olds are among 81 youngsters who were allocated plots of land in a squatter resettlement area in Taman Selayang Mutiara, Selangor, in a land scam which began more than 20 years ago.

Chronology of events in Bukit Botak

  • 1985 - Selangor state government announced that the 1,634 squatter families would be offered individual land titles.
  • 1990 - Some 270 families were issued land titles in Kampung Bendahara (not too far from the area)
  • 1996 - Delpuri Corp Sdn Bhd awarded contract to develop the 55.2ha of land.
  • 1996 - State Government also offered Delpuri 9.6ha of land as incentive.
  • 2000 - Construction agreement signed between the developer and all the squatters.
  • 2000 - Three hundred of the squatter families also granted Delpuri the Power of Attorney to develop their lots.
  • 2003 - Documents were stamped.
  • 2003 - Completed the construction of 82 houses.
  • 2005 - The Selangor Government ordered its subsidiary Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) to take over the scheme from Delpuri after the developer failed to complete the construction of the Semi-D homes.
  • 2006 - PKNS went in and carried out infra-structure development at a cost of RM40mil.
  • 2007 - Began issuing land titles.
  • 2008 - Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim ordered the scheme to be reviewed and stopped issue of titles.
