SANDAKAN, 21st May, 2009: The building of houses for the hardcore poor in the Sekong constituency is upsetting its assemblyman Datuk Samsudin Yahya.
He has every reason to be as he did not know about such a project and the quality of the houses was poor.
“Even the local leaders do not know about the housing project for the hardcore poor,” he said.
What disappointed him most was the quality of the houses which were not built based on the specifications.
The Batu Sapi Umno division chief said that the project apparently involved several villages.
“As the assemblyman for the areas, I was never informed about it. The implementer did not tell me,” he told reporters here after visiting some of the completed houses yesterday.
He added that such act was uncalled for.
The government, he said was spending RM40,000 to build each houses which are made up of cheap wood and plywood.
According to him, there were no signboards to indicate a government work was in progress.
He acknowledged that the recipients of the houses were hardcore poor.
He added that the quality of the houses was not doing justice to the poor people.
“The needy of Kg Gerakan Desa Wawasan and Kampung Istimewa deserve better houses,” he said.
He was also disappointed with the response of a staff whose office was involved in the project.
Samsudin said that his People’s Development Leader (PKR) was asked to check on the project and to find out the cost of constructing the houses. He claimed that the staff replied rudely in a text message.
