Kota Kinabalu, May 04, 2009: , , following the party elections in March this year.
That is the price she has to pay for supporting then incumbent Wanita Umno chief, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, in the movement's elections. Amisah, however, remains as a member of the Sabah Wanita Umno Executive Committee.
Although she is disappointed with the outcome, she has graciously accepted the decision made by the new Wanita Umno chief, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil. Saying politics is a gamble, she has no regrets about it.
"I view the change positively as any open-minded politicians would do. Win or lose, I am always a party worker and supporter. That should be the way. When assigned by the leadership to carry out any task, I will kerja (work) without question," said the seasoned politician who is currently Political Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment.
Amisah, who has been Umno Ranau Division Wanita chief since 1998, contended that having a position should not be the main basis for serving the party and the people.
"On the contrary, jawatan (position) or no jawatan (position), we are here to bertugas (to do one's duty), to berkhidmat (serve). And for that matter, any position, no matter how small it may be, is equally important.
"If we all wait to be given party posts on a platter before we start moving, then sooner or later, any party will jatuh (fall)," she pointed out.
Asked whether her "demotion" would hamper advancement of her political career and deprive her of the opportunity to become an election candidate in future, Amisah looked at the latest development from a different perspective.
"Yes, it may hamper in that respect but then, let's look at the other side of the coin. Maybe, some day, the leadership will take my contribution into consideration and decide to give me a chance, irrespective of whether I am holding a major post in the party or otherwise," she said optimistically.
She has twice missed the boat to be nominated as an Umno candidate in the State elections, giving way to her male counterparts.
"Somehow, I am always not in the right place. But that is the life of a politician," she quipped.
