SANDAKAN, April 1 (Bernama) -- Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman today reprimanded bumiputera contractors in the state who had been given state jobs but failed to complete them on time.
"I am very sad when there are bumiputera contractors who are not committed and fail to complete their projects on time or complete projects unsatisfactorily.
"We have given them opportunity and space to implement the projects but they fail to live up to expectations. This causes loss to the people and the government," he said when met after inspecting the construction of the Taman Cahaya Complex for the Blind at Pekan Muhibbah here.
Earlier he inspected a mosque building project at Kampung Jawa 2 here and found that the project was not completed on time.
Musa said given the contractors' attitudes the state government would be more careful when awarding contracts to bumiputeras.
He said the awarding of contracts to bumiputera contractors through tenders was for those who were qualified and had good records.
Musa said the government would take stern action against errant contractors, adding that this included blacklisting and no new contracts for them.
He said many new projects were planned under the Sabah Development Corridor and the stimulus package announced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak recently.
"We want contractors who are dedicated and responsible," he said.
