STARVING GIRL ACCUSED OF STEALING FOOD

starving-hand-2

MUAR: She has been stealing food from her classmates for quite some time.

Following complaints among students, the 8-year-old was called for a counselling session. That was when her teachers came to know that she was a victim of physical abuse by her foster mother for four years.

It is learnt that the little girl allegedly stole the food because she was not given any before going to school.

She went to class hungry and resorted to stealing food to abate her hunger.

Sources said the girl suffered bruises, mostly waist down. She is believed to have been beaten and scolded over trivial matters other than being incarcerated by her foster mother.

She was also said to have been constantly beaten for defecating around her home.

"During a counselling session at school, her teachers realised that the student suffered from a type of skin problem.

"Upon checking, they were shocked to see the bruises all over her.

"It was then the girl told her teachers of what had transpired back home."

The Welfare Department stepped in and took her away for protection on March 17 following a report.

Muar Welfare Department officer Nasir Hussin confirmed the case.
A police report over the matter was lodged.

However, the girl's foster mother has yet to be detained for the alleged abuse.
