KOTA KINABALU, March 31 (Bernama) -- Former Chief Minister Datuk Harris Salleh's proposal to the federal government to give RM300 cash to every adult to stimulate economic activities will not yield significant benefit, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said Tuesday.
"Instead, what is important is drawing up a comprehensive short-and long-term plans, taking into account the people's interests, particularly people living in rural areas," said Musa, who is also Sabah Finance Minister.
He said the state and federal governments had always helped rural folk through various programmes, including poverty eradication initiatives, by the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.
"We have been doing this and what we have planned for the people will be implemented from time to time. I think giving cash alone will not bring any benefit.
"We need to find a permanent solution that benefits the rural people in Sabah," he told reporters after opening the Sabah Association of Senior Citizens' building in Likas.
Harris had yesterday asked the federal government to review the two stimulus packages totalling $67 billion and consider giving RM300 cash to every adult for nine months to boost economic activities particularly in rural areas.
He also urged the federal government to emulate Thailand's stimulus package which pays 2,000 baht (RM205) to every citizen.
