ONE OF ‘SULU SULTAN’ JAILED FOR BURNING SABAH FLAG

One of 'Sulu Sultans' off to jail

Tawau Nov 04: The High Court rejected, Thursday, an application by a man against his eight months' imprisonment and fine of RM10,000 imposed by the Lahad Datu Magistrate's Court for illegal gathering and showing disrespect for Sabah's flag.

image Judicial Commissioner Datuk Douglas Primus rejected the appeal and retained the sentences of Datu Abdul Rajak Datu Abdul Aliuddin (pic right) who committed the offence in Lahad Datu township at 9.27am on April 4, 2009.

The accused, who claimed to be the Sulu Sultan, and 11 others held an illegal gathering to protest the Malaysian Government's refusal to recognise him (Datu) as the Sixth Sultan Sulu . They also burned the Sabah flags during the gathering.

imageThe accused pleaded guilty to two charges under Section 27 (5) (a) of Police Act 1987 for illegal gathering and Section 435 of the Penal Code for burning the Sabah flags.

Earlier, the accused was jailed five years under Section 435 of the Penal Code but he has appealed successfully.

However, he has been sentenced to eight months' jail and fined RM10,000 under 27(5) (a) of Police Act 1987 for illegal gathering he appealed to the Tawau High Court for this sentence.

The case of another so-called Sulu Sultan, Datu Akjan, is still pending.

    begitu ramai yang mengaku sebagai Sultan Sulu. tapi semuanya tidak diiktiraf.

    Sultan sulu? Siapakah yang benar-benar layak mendapat gelaran itu. Kerana sehingga sekarang masih menjadi tanda tanya..
