Skilled human capital vital to achieve development transformation
KOTA KINABALU 3/10/2012: Producing skilled labour for any industry requires a high cost, KKYS Sdn Bhd’s Board of Director chairman Datuk Kamal DE Quadra said.
He said with a government that is sensitive, responsible as well as considerate to the needs of the people, more and more post SPM students now have the opportunity to pursue further studies or training.
Speaking at Kolej Yayasan Sabah’s (KYS) 17th convocation yesterday, Kamal pointed out that higher learning institutes as well as training centres must therefore assist the government by producing human capital that is highly skilled and knowledgeable in critical sectors in order for the country to achieve its development transformation.
He also said the government is really earnest in its efforts to produce a highly skilled nation, and this was translated through the allocations in the national 2013 Budget which encompasses the needs from pre-schools to tertiary education.
Higher learning institutes and training centres must therefore continue to work hand in hand with the government so that more skilled and knowledgeable workers can be produced.
“We in KYS are proud as we have, since our inception 20 years ago, successfully produced skilled workers who have excelled in their respective careers,” he said, adding that KYS will continue to improve its programmes so that the graduates will meet the country’s requirements.
Yesterday, 507 students received their diplomas and certificates from Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.
Kamal added that KYS currently has 2,438 students in various courses and the huge number is an encouraging sign for the college’s future as a training centre and the choice of people in Sabah.
Skill itu amat perlu sekarang ini berbanding daripada ilmu.
