KUALA LUMPUR 22 September 2012: 1Malaysia English Channel Unity Swim Expedition swimmer, Estino Taniyu, created history yesterday when he completed his solo challenge across the English Channel at 10.20pm Malaysian time.

The prime minister's press secretary, Datuk Akmar Hisham Mokhles said Estino, 24, completed the challenge at Sandy beach, Calais in France, after taking off from Dover beach in the UK at 8.41am (Malaysian time).
Estino, a navy man from Semporna, clocked 13 hours 45 minutes and 45 seconds.
Hisham said Estino was the second Malaysian swimmer to have conquered the English Channel in the cageless swimming category after Lennard Lee in 2004.
The relay team of six swimmers also completed their challenge of swimming across the English Channel at 4pm on Thursday in 14 hours 30 minutes.
The team comprised Mohd Roslan Mohd Zawawi, the lead swimmer, Mohd Khairul Faizal Mazli, Mohd Salleh Mahmor, Buranurdin Sali, Sharizal Omar and Mohd Zulfadhli Mahamad.
"We are grateful to have completed the challenge. We thank all Malaysians for their prayers," Hisham said.
The expedition is organised by the Malaysian 7 Continents Exploration Club under the patronage of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The swimmers are expected to return home tomorrow.
