DRUG ACCUSED GETS 18 YEARS, 10 STROKES

Drug accused gets 18 years, 10 strokes

LAHAD DATU June 26, 2012: The Sessions Court here yesterday sentenced a foreigner to 18 years’ jail and ten strokes of the cane for possessing 42.15 grams of Methamphetamine.

Judge M. Rajalingam imposed the sentence on Zul Ghafur Bin Nandak, 29, after he pleaded guilty to possessing the drugs on March 23, this year at Jalan Kampung Jaya Baru, Kunak.

The judge convicted the accused under Section 39A (2)(r) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39 A(2) of the Same Act.

The court ordered him to serve his sentence from the date of his arrest on March 23, 2012.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Soffi Jalal told the court that the accused was arrested by Kunak police after a plastic bag which contained three packets of syabu, were found in his pockets.

Zul was also ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving his sentence for deportation to his country of origin for not having valid documents.
