Let us begin with the tale of a shepherd who was herding his flock in a remote pasture when a brand-new Porsche approached on the long dirt road. Out stepped the driver, wearing a tailored suit, designer tie and gold Rolex.
"If I tell you exactly how many sheep you have," the man propositioned, "will you give me one?"
The shepherd measured the interloper with his eyes and answered, "Sure."
The man took out his iPad, typed "Google Earth" into a search engine and an instant later he was connected to a GPS satellite navigation system that scanned the area. Next, he downloaded a new 4-H app and after a few more keystrokes had his answer.
"You have exactly 2,012 sheep," the man declared.
"That's right," the surprised shepherd replied. "Help yourself to one of my sheep."
As he watched the visitor select his reward, the shepherd said, "If I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my animal?"
"It's a deal."
"Obviously," the shepherd rejoined, "you're a consultant."
"You're correct — how did you guess?"
"No guessing required," the shepherd explained.
“Firstly, You turned up here although nobody called you.”
“Secondly, You want to get paid for an answer I already knew — to a question I never asked.”
“Thirdly, you don't understand anything about my business.”
