LAJIM ON LEAVE FOR MEDICAL REVIEW

Lajim in China for medical review

lajim KOTA KINABALU Jan 18, 2012: Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Lajim Ukin’s absence at the Sabah Barisan Nasional and Umno meetings here was answered yesterday.

His press secretary, Jaafar Ab Wahid, when contacted cleared the air that the Beaufort Umno Division chief is now away in China for a medical review.

“He took a one-week leave and left for China last week, accompanied by wife Datin Seri Normilah Siong. He is expected to return home soon,” explained Jaafar.

In fact, prior to his trip, Lajim had informed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that he was going for one-week leave.

“The notice for the meetings were sent at a last minute and (Datuk) Lajim had left for China. He then authorised his deputy, Isnin Asliahneh, to represent him,” explained Jaafar.

Lajim’s absence at the meetings, chaired by Muhyiddin on Monday night, had initially sparked further speculation that he would leave the party.

Rumour has it that the Beaufort member of parliament is on the verge of leaving Umno to lead a small Bumiputera party that was at one time briefly helmed by a former chief minister in the Berjaya government that was brought down by Parti Bersatu Sabah in 1985.

It was also reported that Lajim had also met opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Singapore recently.

The rumour has left the opposition parties excited, including his former colleague in Parti Bersatu Sabah, Sabah Progressive Party president Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee, who invited Lajim to join them.

Yong has expressed the party’s willingness to work with Lajim in the concept of ABU (Asal Bukan Umno – Anything But Umno) to face Umno and BN in the 13th General Election.

He, however, stressed that Lajim must leave the ruling coalition now in order to be well prepared.
