SABAH PARENTS TO JOIN IN CAMPAIGN FOR ENGLISH

Sabah parents to join in campaign for English

KOTA KINABALU Oct 28, 2011: The Parent Action Group for Education (PAGE) Sabah Chapter, Sabah’s Concerned Parents for Education (SCOPE), has been formed to campaign to have Maths and Science taught in English.

Led by protem president Francis Goh, SCOPE will have its inaugural protem committee Meeting this Saturday at the SHAREDA Secretariat Office at Beverly Hills Plaza, Jalan Bundusan here at 12.30pm.

After only two weeks of launching “1MMalaysians say YES to PPSMI as an OPTION” in the Facebook social network media, more than 55,000 concerned parents and students who desire that the teaching of Maths and Science in English to continue have joined the group to voice out their preferred choice.

Many Sabahans have joined in on the Facebook cause as well at https://www.facebook.com/groups/201659423239872/

This facebook cause was launched by PAGE Penang Chapter and the numbers are increasing daily by the thousands.

It is a voice that the Ministry of Education has been ignoring so far since the announcement of the abolishment of PPSMI (teaching of Science and Maths in English) in 2009 by the Minister of Education and Deputy Prime Minister.

PAGE, an officially registered society in Malaysia, has its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

There are similar affiliated groups who are also campaigning strong for the same cause – option to have Maths and Science taught in English.

These groups are state chapters or associates of PAGE, namely MAGPIE (Malacca Action Group for Parents in Education) and Penang Chapter (HoPE).
