S'kan cabby is found with gun wound in neck

March 02, 2011 Sandakan: A taxi driver was found dead with a gunshot wound in his neck at the UMS construction site near Jalan Sungai Batang, Mile 10 of Jalan Labuk Polis, Monday.

Junaidi Saman, 53, was found lying face down beside his taxi when a security guard discovered the body around 7pm.

District Police Chief ACP Rowell Marung said the engine was still running when the body was found and police found two .45 calibre bullets at the scene.

"However his (Junaidi) wallet and two handphones had gone missing," he said.

Based on preliminary investigation, Rowell said the security guard had seen the taxi entering the construction site about 6pm, through a service road and not the main entrance.

"It was also learnt that the victim had always waited for passengers in the town area, hospital of a well-known hotel at Jalan Utara," he said, and classified the case as murder.

Rowell believed there could be more than one suspect and that both victim and suspect(s) could have known each other.

He also said police did not rule our robbery and that police would investigated every aspect to find out the motive of the murder, adding the body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem.
