Blogger gets more time to respond to Rais' claim
February 17th, 2011 KUALA LUMPUR: A blogger who re-posted an article by online portal Harakah Daily which accused Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim of rape against a former maid has been given more time to respond to the minister's lawyers who had obtained an injunction against on the blogger.
High Court Judge Datin Zabariah Mohd Yusof today allowed blogger Amizudin Ahmat, who blogs as "Din Sharpshooter", to serve his affidavit in response on a date after Feb 22.
Penang-based Amizudin told the court he had received the writ of summons last Friday and needed more time to seek legal representation.
Last month, Rais obtained an injunction ordering blogger Amizudin, also known as 'Din Bujai', to remove a defamatory article in his blog which Rais claimed implied he was guilty of raping his Indonesian maid.
The High court had granted the ex-parte injunction ordering Amuzidin to stop publishing similar defamatory words regarding the minister in his blog or other blogs belonging to third parties until disposal of the inter-parte injunction application.
On Jan 31, Rais filed a suit against Amizudin claiming the blogger had published or caused to be published a defamatory article under the heading “Hei Pak Menteri...mana mau lari..." (Hey Mr Minister...where do you want to run to) in his blog on Dec 28, last year.
Rais had said the words in the posting also implied he is a person with authority who liked to take advantage of his subordinates, was an unfaithful husband and an immoral leader, causing him to suffer embarrassment and distress.
Meanwhile, prominent blogger Datuk Ahirudin Attan, better known as Rocky Bru, said the Malaysian Blog House alliance would assist Amizudin.
Rocky questioned why Amizudin was singled out of the many bloggers who had written about the rape allegation.
"He only reposted an article by Harakah Daily. Why didn't they go after the portal instead? Is this a scare tactic against bloggers?" Ahiruddin said.
BalasPadammana2 media pun keluarkanlah maklumat yng benar.
