LOCAL AUTHORITIES IN SABAH AND SARAWAK WILL RECEIVE SPECIAL FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANTS OF BETWEEN RM500,000 AND RM4.5MIL FROM THIS YEAR.

Sabah, Sarawak local authorities to get grants

image KOTA KINABALU: Local authorities in Sabah and Sarawak will receive special federal assistance grants of between RM500,000 and RM4.5mil from this year.

Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said the amount in grant would be based on the population, administrative cost, uniqueness as well as the status of each of the municipal or district.

“We hope the assistance will enable local authorities to act immediately to resolve whatever problems faced by the people,” he said at the distribution of grants to local authorities in Sabah here Sunday.

The annual grants had initially been allocated to local authorities in the peninsula but it is now extended to include Sabah and Sarawak.

Kong said that about RM34.56mil had been allocated for Sabah this year.

He urged local authorities to monitor and improve their services for ratepayers in their respective areas.
