KOTA KINABALU, July 27 (Bernama) -- A state assemblyman has called on the relevant authorities to monitor the unusually large number of foreigners posing as locals, in the Tenom district.
Melalap assemblyman Datuk Radin Malleh said the police, immigration and national registration departments should make a thorough check on the foreigners who claim to be locals.
"However, they can be easily distinguised (as foreigners) by their accent and appearances.
"I have also been inundated with complaints over their large presence in Tenom," the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) secretary-general said in a press statement Monday.
Radin was responding to a statement by Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein in Sandakan yesterday, that bogus agents -- claiming to facilitate identification document applications -- were at large in Sabah.
He also supported Hishammuddin's call to take stern action against the agents, as well as those who engaged their services.
