KOTA BARU, Sat: A SECONDARY school student here claimed he was assaulted by about 20 students after he refused to give them a 'protection fee' of RM1 last Thursday.
The victim, who only wants to be identified as Angah, said he was beaten until unconscious near the school's premises after school hours.
"I refused to give them the RM1 because I needed the money to fill petrol in my motorcycle.
"This angered the students and they waylaid me after school," he told Bernama here today.
He said he had just transferred to the school earlier this month from Kuala Lumpur, and had been asked for RM1 each day as protection fee.
"Previously, I paid as requested, but on Thursday I needed the money to fill up petrol but they threatened to damage my motorcycle," he said.
He said when school ended one of the group's members asked him to meet near the school to 'hang out', but upon arrival he was assaulted by the group.
The victim was sent to the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital, Kubang Kerian, for treatment and then sent home.
"My head, wrist and other body parts still hurt after the incident and I then made a police report at the Binjai police station," he said.
He added that his mother would meet the principal of the school tomorrow to discuss the matter, and for the moment he had no plans to change school.
"I hope a solution can be found for this incident," he said.
Meanwhile, Kota Baru police chief ACP Zahruddin Abdullah could not be contacted for comment on the incident. - BERNAMA
