KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Barisan Nasional must stick to the principle of appointing only members of coalition partners for government posts, Kalabakan MP Datuk Abdul Ghapur Salleh said.
He believed that coalition unity could be destroyed if independent Barisan supporters were allowed to stay in the state cabinet or other government positions, he said, referring to partyless Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Raymond Tan.
Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman said on Monday that he would get the views of component parties before he made a decision on Tan’s position.
Tan resigned from the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) after it quit Barisan on Sept 17 last year. Ghapur said Tan’s retention would send a signal to other component party members that it was not wrong to leave their party and still declare support for Barisan.
“If this is the case, I can say I’m quitting Umno but will remain independent and support Barisan. Will Barisan also accept my stand?” he asked
“I believe this is not the right way for Barisan to operate under any circumstances,” he added.
Tan has yet to comment on the latest pressure from component parties which want him to resign.
