KOTA BARU: A 20-year-old pasar malam trader was killed when he fell in front of a car after his motorcycle rammed into a cow in Jalan Raja Perempuan Zainab II near Kampung Demit yesterday. Mohammad Shahrul Mat Arriffin died on the spot in the 5.30am accident.
His sister, Mastura, 24, said her brother, the youngest of six siblings, was returning to their house in Kampung Demit after fishing with several friends at Pantai Senok.
"My family and I were informed of the incident by Shahrul's friend and immediately went to the scene but his body had already been taken to Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian when we arrived there," she said at the family's home yesterday.
Mastura said Shahrul had been working at her husband's stall since he completed his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination.
"However, over the past few weeks, he kept saying that he wanted to stop working with us but did not mention what he was going to do next when he quit the job. He also hadn't taken his salary since last week. I normally gave him between RM10 and RM30 per day."
District traffic police chief Deputy Superintendent Noh Che Pa urged witnesses to contact the district police headquarters.
