KOTA KINABALU August 30, 2012: The body of the three-year-old girl who was reported missing after she and a 40-year-old man were swept away by swift current in Ranau, was found yesterday morning.
Elsey Charles’s remains was found around 8am yesterday near Kampung Kagasaran, about 40 meters from where she was reported missing.
Search effort is now being carried out for the second victim, identified as Marudin Limboy, 40, who was also reported missing in the 7pm incident on August 25.
Fire and Rescue Services Department public relations officer Mohd Affendy Ramin when contacted, said the victim’s body was found by villagers.
He said the body had been taken to the district hospital for a post-mortem.
The incident happened when the Land Cruiser Wagon carrying nine people, was swept away by strong water current while crossing the Kangairan River in Ranau.
It is said that the driver had to stop the wagon in the middle of the shallow river to allow a vehicle that was in front to drive up the river bank.
The water current from a nearby hill suddenly changed and swept away the wagon that was still in the middle of the river.
Seven people who were inside the vehicle managed to swim to the river bank while Marudin and Elsey were reported missing.
