Free Internet access for 800 more Sabah villages – MCMC
SANDAKAN August 5, 2012: Another 800 villages will be added to the current 300 wireless villages in Sabah where villagers have free access to the wireless Internet provided by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Disclosing this here yesterday, Sabah and Labuan MCMC Director Bukhari Yahya said he is confident MCMC can provide the facility to 500 more villages (on top of the 800) by the end of this year.
“With this facility, they (villagers) are able to access the borderless world for free and empower knowledge through use of ICT (Internet Communication Technology),”
he said.
He added that apart from the wireless villages, MCMC is also currently upgrading its 3G technology and reception to rural areas and providing 28 more 1Malaysia Internet Center (formerly known as Community Broadband Center) across Sabah.
“These Internet Centers are facilities where local villagers can surf the net and receive training involving ICT,” said Bukhari after officiating at a donation presentation to five charitable bodies from Sandakan in conjunction with MCMC breaking of fast ceremony at Hotel Pavillion, last Friday.
Bukhari said that the breaking fast ceremony was organized by MCMC in collaboration with Digi, Maxis, Celcom, TM, Redtone and Pos Malaysia to strengthen ties between telcos during the fasting month.

PadamBetul tu. Takda guna ada wireless kalau elktrik on off ja:P
PadamYes agree, hope more resident can enjoy more internet access.
BalasPadamApapun usaha MCMC memang patut dipuji. Keep up the good work.
BalasPadamAfter this, more place will benefit the same.
BalasPadamParah akibatnya jika disalahgunakannya.

BalasPadamP1's aggressive rollout plan intends to cover approximately 80 per cent of households in Kota Kinabalu within six months.
