Man claims trial for corruption
KOTA KINABALU: A businessman accused of accepting and asking for money as an inducement to help with the issuance of titles to two land applications claimed trial at the special corruption court here today.
Suaidin @ Shuhaiddin Langkab @ Langab, 62, who is also a politician, pleaded not guilty to the two charges under the Anti-Corruption Act 1997.
On the first charge, he is alleged to have asked for RM400,000 from another businessman, Chew Ai Wah, 56, as payment to an officer at the Lands and Survey department at the Tang Dynasty Hotel at about 9.30am on Aug 28, 2008.
The amount was supposedly for the officer to arrange the issuance of titles for two land applications, PT80231840- PT80231842 and PT80231849-PT80231852, in Pitas.
On the second charge, he is alleged to have accepted RM150,000 also as inducement for the same officer at a restaurant at the Nexus Karambunai Resort at about 9pm on Sept 19, 2008.
Judge Dean Wayne Daly set bail at RM20,000 in one local surety and RM5,000 deposit. He also set May 24 to mention the case.
The prosecution was led by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency prosecuting officer Awang Samsul Baharam while Suaidin was represented by counsel Arthur Borine.
In the last general election, Suaidin had contested for the Sook state seat as an independent candidate and lost.
Diharapkan mahkamah akan membuat keputusan yang wajar terhadap peniaga ini yang didakwa memakan suap.
