Shrimp farm worker kills colleague

A MISUNDERSTANDING over a fertiliser machine led to the death of a shrimp farm worker who was killed by his colleague at Kampung Lok Batik near here, yesterday.

The suspect stabbed John Stanley, 27, three times before smashing his head with a stone in the 7.40am incident.

Prior to that, the victim was having breakfast with a friend, known only as Andy, when the 43-year-old suspect approached them.

"He told us that someone had been using a fertiliser machine used for feeding shrimps and had accused John.

"John told him off, which caused the suspect to get even angrier and asked John whether he had a problem with him. After that, John just kept quiet.

"However, the suspect suddenly pulled out a machete from behind and pointed it at John," said Andy, adding the suspect was a Filipino.

An argument ensued, prompting the suspect to swing his machete at Stanley, hitting his stomach.

John fell to the ground, and the suspect stabbed him several times, ignoring Andy's plea to stop.

"The suspect got mad and told me not to interfere. I was afraid and left the scene to call for help from other workers.

"I couldn't do anything but watch my friend die in front of me," said Andy.

He added that the suspect then grabbed a stone and smashed John's head.

It was learnt that the suspect also went after a female clerk with the machete after she tried to persuade the suspect to stop.

The suspect, however, left the scene and fled into a nearby mangrove forest with the weapon.

State Serious Crimes chief Superintendent Suhaimi Wiro said police were looking for the suspect with the help of the K9 unit.
