OVER 13,000 ILLEGALS DEPORTED
18th January, 2011 KOTA KINABALU: A total of 13,175 illegal immigrants have been deported to their countries of origin as of December 31st last year.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said 8,625 are from the Philippines, 4,397 from Indonesia and the remaining 153 from other countries.
Speaking to reporters after chairing the State Security Committee meeting here yesterday, he said there are still 4,190 illegal immigrants – 3,684 Filipinos, 450 Indonesians and 556 other nationals – being held in custody at the moment.
“We are in the process of sending them home,” he added.
On the hiring of workers from other countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Vietnam, he said priority must be given to local workers unless there is a real need to hire these foreign workers
He, however said the oil palm plantations may require workers from these foreign countries.
“Many Indonesian workers are now more interested to work in their country as many oil palm plantations have been developed, especially in Kalimantan,” he said.
The Chief Minister also said the plantation, agriculture, forestry and construction sectors are allowed to employ foreign workers from these new sources and that only Filipino and Indonesians are allowed to work as maids.
He added that the temporary work pass for foreign workers in oil palm plantations would be extended for five years, and after that they no longer allowed to work in the country.
And, as of the end of last year, there were 272,257 registered foreign workers in Sabah and most of them are from Indonesia and the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Musa thanked the various security agencies, especially the police for solving the abduction case at Pulau Sebangkit in Semporna.
The two abducted workers of a seaweed farm were recently released. The Chief Minister also urged all security agencies to beef up surveillance in the wake of the incident.

BalasPadamkeep up the good job. Deport more illegal immigrants~!
BalasPadamHopefully by this year, the numbers of illegal immigrants will decrease tremendously. With the decrease of number,Sabah will be a better, secure place to stay.
BalasPadamlepas dihantar balik harap mereka tk dtg semula ke Sabah.
BalasPadamThere be a tough session, indeed! Lets us do this as we will be the most free from PTI!!!
BalasPadamThumbs up Datuk! Keep up the good work! we are waiting for the more to come, good things to come!
BalasPadamjust continue such efforts and at the same time please ensure that our authorities will always increase they security at all entry points and our territorial waters.
BalasPadamhopefully, chief minister Musa Aman will be able to turn Sabah to be much better than before. congratulation..
BalasPadam13000 illegal deported??Good news for us. Hope the operation to catch illegal still on and on.
BalasPadamSuch a good news to hear regarding actions are actually being taken to overcome this PATI issues.
BalasPadamThe reason why we need those manpower's from Indonesia, Philippines and so on are because our own manpower's wouldn't want to do those heavy dirty jobs. So what to do?
BalasPadamSend them back to where they belong.
BalasPadamHopefully more and more will be deported.
BalasPadamBetul tu. Jangan biarkan mereka semakin membiak di Sabah.
BalasPadamSeems like Sabah has managed to chase away most of the PTIs.
BalasPadamGet rid of them!
BalasPadamSepatutnya Pulau Gaya turut diselongkar.
BalasPadamUsaha ini perlu diteruskan. Saya berharap negeri kita bebas PTI pada satu hari nanti.
BalasPadamPlease keep up the good work. We need to send them all back to their home country.
