KOTA KINABALU: A 14-year-old student was allegedly beaten up by three teachers in full view of other students at a secondary school in Inanam Friday.

The student alleged that he was punched, slapped, kicked, dragged, thrown and stepped on by the teachers who also ignored his plea for mercy as witnesses helplessly watched.

The student’s mother, identified only as Han, told New Sabah Times yesterday that the beating was believed to have been caused by what she claimed to be a mistake in judgment on the part of the school prefect.

She claimed that the prefect had mistakenly thought that a fight broke out between her son and his friend over a girl whereas in fact they were only having a “conversation” about her.

She said the prefect then reported the matter to the three disciplinary teachers who allegedly dragged him from behind while he was on his way to perform his Friday prayers and started to beat him up.

She also said that the whole incident was witnessed not only by other students but also the victim’s older brother. She believed the incident was captured on a handphone camera by a group of four unidentified men whom she learned to have called out to the teachers to stop.

His older brother, also a student of the school, later phoned the mother about the incident.

Relating what had happened, the boy claimed that he fell on the ground as the teachers continued beating him up. He alleged that he was also stomped on and kicked.

“One of the teachers locked my head between his thighs while another kicked me on the chin,” he said.

He claimed that the teachers finally stopped beating him up after hearing his cry for help and brought him to the general office of the school.

According to Han, two of the teachers later apologised to her for getting too carried away.

It was believed that the headmaster of the school was absent at the time.

Han later brought her son for medical treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital where X-ray examinations showed no fractures but the victim was given medicine to quell the swelling and a Tetanus injection.

She later brought the victim to lodge a police report at the Inanam police station on the same day and lodged another report at the Karamunsing police station yesterday.

“I didn’t do this to expose anything but I just want to remind teachers, especially discipline teachers, that they should investigate matters thoroughly before taking any action. They should not take action without examining,” Han said.
