SEREMBAN: Qatar-based consortium, Gulf Petroleum Ltd, has selected Port Dickson (PD) to house its RM17 billion integrated oil and gas complex.

Managing director of Gulf Petroleum (M) Sdn Bhd (GPLM), Nor Azmi Abdullah, said construction of the complex would begin after the consortium has finalised talks with its shareholders in May.

“From the proposed 10 sites, we shortlisted Perak and PD.

“PD was selected because of its heritage in oil and gas industry and major players such as Exxon Mobil, Shell and Petronas have their refineries there,” he said at the signing ceremony among consortium members on the project here yesterday.

Nor Azmi said the complex, which would include a refinery, petrochemical plant and storage facilities, would be able to produce about 150,000 barrels of oil per day.

Also present was Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

Others included members of the consortium and partners in the project.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Gulf Petroleum said the complex would have the advantages of access to the main route of oil tankers from the Middle East and East Asia region.

It said the complex was intended to be GPLM’s regional hub for its activities in Asia Pacific.

“GPLM has secured crude oil supply among consortium members and has finalised initial agreements on products off-take arrangement with several countries within Asean and in Asia-Pacific,” it said.
