Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun is clearly not impressed with the reading habits of Sabahans. He is even a little miffed.
"As can be seen in today's book festival, it is clear that there are not many who have the habit,"
"Maybe next year we will have to invite (popular singer) Siti Nurhaliza to launch the book festival,"
"If parents themselves are not fond of reading, how can we expect children to adopt the behavior?"
"We have to acknowledge the fact that only with education and knowledge, can a country prosper well and be a developed one,"
To illustrate his point, people, for instance, must remember that the usage of plastic bags should be minimized, and if possible, stopped from being used at all.
"Where do I get all this information about the disadvantages of plastic? I read. That is the problem with people today, they don't read,"
"We hope that parents will adopt the habit of reading and encourage their children to do so."
