RANAU MAN LOSES RM12,000 TO SWEET TALK OF BUSINESS
Ranau: A villager here fell for the sweet talk of a so-called business venture and lost RM12,000 to a man who had offered him a lift, on Tuesday.
District Police Chief, DSP Suhaimy Hashim, said the 55-year-old villager met the suspect by chance while he was waiting by the roadside at a village here.
"The suspect pulled over and offered him a ride on his car at about 3pm.
"He (the suspect) then told the villager he was in a business installing telecommunication towers and convinced him to become a joint venture partner," he said.
Excited by the prospect, the villager went to a bank in town here where he withdrew RM12,000 from his savings.
"While they were on their way to the so-called tower site, the villager asked the man to stop so he could relieve himself," Suhaimy said.
"That's when the suspect pounced on his chance, pushing the villager to the ground, grabbed the money and fled," he said, adding police were trying to gather information on the suspect.
