Illegal held after snatching bag of money from woman

January 4, 2011, KOTA KINABALU: An illegal immigrant was apprehended by police as he tried to escape after snatching a bag of money from a woman here yesterday.

The 11.30am incident happened in full view of the public when police apprehended the suspect near the Great Eastern Life building along Jalan Gaya.

It was learnt that prior to the incident, the suspect in his 40s, had snatched a bag of money from a 24-hour convenience store staff as they were about to bank in the money at a bank.

“I was walking with my colleague along Jalan Pantai to the bank when he (the suspect) came from behind and snatched the bag from my hand.

“I immediately yelled ‘pencuri, pencuri’ (thief, thief), as we chased after the suspect,” said Adibah, 25, who was still in a state of shock.

According to Adibah, the suspect ran for about 100 metres towards the Great Eastern Life building before he was confronted by members of the public who heard her cries.

The suspect, desperate to escape, was seen threatening those who approached him with a knife.

Members of the public also surrounded the suspect to prevent him from running away before a police patrol car arrived.

He was detained by police and taken to the Karamunsing police station.

The money was recovered from the suspect and a police report was lodged the same day.

Polis Sabah Berjaya Capai KPI Selesai 40 Peratus Kes Jenayah Tahun Lepas

KOTA KINABALU, 4 Jan (Bernama) -- Polis Sabah pada sepanjang tahun lepas berjaya mencapai Petunjuk Prestasi Utama (KPI) Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) iaitu menyelesaikan 40 peratus kes jenayah.

Pesuruhjaya Polis Sabah Datuk Hamza Taib berkata pasukan polis negeri berjaya menyelesaikan 409 kes jenayah atau 41.58 peratus sepanjang tahun lepas.

"Kita juga berjaya mengurangkan kadar jenayah jalanan sebanyak 25.5 peratus," katanya kepada pemberita selepas menyaksikan upacara serah dan terima tugas jawatan Ketua Jabatan Pengurusan Polis Sabah di sini Selasa.

Pada majlis itu, Pemangku SAC Noor Azam Jamaludin menerima tugas sebagai Ketua Jabatan Pengurusan Polis Negeri daripada SAC Tan Kok Liang yang kini menjawat jawatan Timbalan Pesuruhjaya Polis Negeri.

Hamza berkata pasukan polis negeri akan mempertingkatkan perkhidmatan dalam ketenteraman awam, walaupun dengan bilangan anggota yang terhad dan sokongan logistik yang kurang.

    If the government can address the problem of illegal immigrants in this state, the government indirectly will also be able to handle the problem of crime, poverty, illegal stalls and etc.. that's why we are always expect the government to solve the problem of the influx of illegal immigrants in this state for the good of the people of Sabah.

    anggota keselamatan seperti polis dan RELA harus diletakkan dengan lebih ramai di kawasan-kawasan tumpuan di kota kinabalu..PATI berkeliaran di sana sini dan harus ditangkap..
