Celcom to investigate allegations

PETALING JAYA: Celcom Axiata Bhd has said it upholds very strict policies in ensuring the privacy of its subscribers and customers to make sure their information is always protected.

The telco was referring to the RM20mil suit filed by Noor Haslina Abdullah, 39, against it on Sunday for allegedly revealing the contents of her SMS exchanges and recordings of her telephone conversations with other individuals.

“Celcom is a responsible corporation and will not tolerate any irresponsible behaviour or violation of its subscribers and/or customers’ privacy, and will take any and all necessary action in this matter,” said Celcom chief corporate officer Adlan Ahmad Tajudin in a statement yesterday.

He also said that Celcom viewed the allegation seriously and would cooperate with all parties involved to investigate the matter.

“Once the investigation is complete, and if the facts suggest that the claim is without basis, Celcom will not hesitate to take all necessary action to the fullest extent available under the law including an action for libel and abuse of court process,” he said.

Yesterday, The Star had reported that Noor Haslina, the CEO of a private college in Kuala Terengganu, had filed a suit against a telco at the High Court registry in Kota Baru.

In her statement of claim, Noor Haslina said that when she arrived at her office on March 11, she received a package which contained nine A4-sized sheets of paper with information about her SMS exchanges and a pen drive that had recordings of her phone conversations.

She added that she had lodged a police report on March 14 and had sought relief from Celcom but had been ignored.

When contacted, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Abd Aziz said individuals were entitled to sue if their privacy had been infringed upon.

“Telcos should not be revealing an individual’s data to anyone, except to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission or police to investigate certain cases,” said the minister in charge of legal matters.

“Even the MACC will still have to obtain a court order before it can proceed to retrieve any information or data.”

KUALA LUMPUR 1 Mac - Celcom (M) Bhd. (Celcom) terus cemerlang apabila merekodkan perolehan yang positif berjumlah RM1.699 bilion bagi 15 sukuan tahun secara berturut-turut pada suku keempat 2009, meningkat 5.8 peratus berbanding suku ketiga tahun yang sama.

Ketua Pegawai Eksekutifnya, Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly berkata, perolehan pada suku keempat itu juga merupakan pertumbuhan sukuan tertinggi sejak dua tahun lalu.

CELCOM BERI JAMINAN RAHSIAKAN MAKLUMAT PERIBADI

KOTA KINABALU, 21 April (Bernama) -- Celcom (M) Berhad memberi jaminan kepada para pelanggannya di Sabah bahawa maklumat peribadi mereka tidak akan didedahkan.

Menurut Celcom, ia memandang serius permintaan Presiden Persatuan Pengguna Sabah (Cash) Datuk Patrick Sindu, supaya syarikat itu segera menjalankan siasatan dalaman berhubung kebocoran maklumat membabitkan panggilan dan khidmat pesanan ringkas (SMS) yang dibuat oleh pemilik telefon bimbit berdaftar.

Celcom berkata ia tidak teragak-agak untuk mengambil tindakan terhadap pihak yang terlibat jika aduan itu terbukti benar.

"Celcom sedang menyiasat dakwaan bagi menentukan kesahihannya. Celcom menegaskan bahawa ia berpegang teguh terhadap dasar kerahsiaan melindungi pelanggan," katanya menerusi satu kenyataan kepada Bernama di sini hari ini.

Tertipu pakej premier 1+5

PADA 21 Mac lalu, ketika saya dan kawan melalui Stesen Komuter Subang Jaya, kami dihalang seorang ejen syarikat Celcom dan memberi saya tiga keping kad SIM premier 1+5 dan mengatakan ia percuma dan tidak akan dikenakan caj jika tidak digunakan.

Dalam keadaan tergesa-gesa, kami menandatangani surat penerimaan itu dan terus pulang ke kampus. Namun pada 7,8 dan 9 April lalu, saya menerima bil berjumlah RM83.60, RM46.10 dan RM46.10 bagi kad yang dikatakan percuma itu.

Saya terkejut dan terus ke pejabat Celcom Seksyen 9 Shah Alam untuk memulangkan kad SIM kerana tidak menggunanya. Malangnya saya dipaksa membayar ketiga-tiga caj talian Celcom yang tidak saya gunakan.

Walaupun saya merayu untuk dikecualikan kerana saya tidak mempunyai pekerjaan dan masih belajar, kakitangan berkenaan tetap memaksa saya membayar.

Saya terpaksa mengeluarkan wang sebanyak RM175.80. Kakitangan itu juga memaklumkan saya akan dikenakan caj purata walaupun sudah membayar caj RM175.80.

Saya kemudian membuat laporan polis di Balai Polis Seksyen 6 Shah Alam mengenai perkara berkenaan.
